Scan Charts with the Camera

Use Scan Chart on iPhone or iPad, save scanned pages, and optionally recognize chords without replacing the original PDF.

Capture paper Charts

The current camera action is called Scan Chart. It is available on supported iPhone and iPad devices; on Mac, import a PDF or image instead.

  1. In Sheets → Charts, open + or Import Chart, then choose Scan Chart.
  2. Allow camera access when prompted. Capture the pages with the document scanner and review them before finishing. Several scanned pages become one PDF Chart.
  3. In Scanned Chart Details, enter a required Title. Artist, Tempo (BPM) and Key are optional. Check any detected suggestions before saving.
  4. Choose Save to create the Chart and open its clean scanned-page layout editor. Arrange the page layout and save your changes.
  5. Open the Chart to read it, add it to a Sheets Setlist, or link it to a Flow Song.

The scanned page remains the source. Capturing it does not require chord recognition, and unreadable text is not a reason to discard an otherwise usable page.

Optional chord recognition

In the reader, open Chart View → Apply OCR to recognize chord regions on a camera-scanned Chart. Review the result against the original before relying on it during a performance. Clear, straight pages with legible chord symbols work best; recognition is not guaranteed.

Once OCR is applied, the recognized chords can use the available chord-size, chord-visibility, transposition, capo and Nashville Number controls. Set the Song Key correctly for Nashville Numbers. Remove OCR removes the chord overlay and returns to the clean scanned-page view; it does not delete the Chart or original PDF.

This is an optional chord overlay on a preserved scan, not automatic conversion of every PDF or photographed lyric sheet into a fully editable text chart. For PDF/image imports and text editing, see Charts and Flow Mode.

If scanning is unavailable

Check camera permission in the device’s Settings and use a supported iPhone/iPad. Scan Chart Unavailable means the scanner could not be used or the capture could not be completed. Import an existing PDF/image through Import Chart as an alternative. On Mac Catalyst, that file-import route is the available workflow.
